Podcast
Welcome to the Coaches Corner Podcast, brought to you by our partners Iron Edge.
Co-Hosted by Founder, Head of Performance & Operations Mitchell Gill-Furness and 2IC Isaiah Joseph.
A platform where we get together to share our experiences, industry insights and create discussions that challenges our own biases and thought processes behind everything that we do.
This podcast is brought to you by our broadcast partners Iron Edge, who are industry leaders in high-performance strength training equipment in Australia.
If you are after any strength training equipment and spot something of interest, I'll then connect over with the team at Iron Edge and see if I can snag you a better deal.
All of your support and feedback is greatly appreciated, please leave us a review and share us around on your social platforms. We hope you enjoy!
project prevention + acl
The objective of ‘Project Prevention’ is to tackle several factors contributing to injury rates among field sport athletes, while also addressing the existing gap in physical preparation standards between local and elite sports sectors.
If we look at ACL injuries alone, we see a significant gender disparity, with women experiencing ACL tears at a rate 4-6 times higher than men. Moreover, non-elite sports see ACL re-injury rates of around 30%, compared to just 5% in elite sports (Lai et al, 2018).
In sports such as AFL, non-contact injuries are predominant, with hamstring strains causing the most missed games per season (Saw et al., 2014). We believe the number of non-contact and soft tissue injuries can be significantly reduced, through both education and improving the level of physical preparation of local athletes.
Our core belief is simple: the best ability is availability. Minimizing time spent on the sidelines means more opportunities for improvement, increased chances of winning games, and the joy of continued participation in the sport.
Our mission is to educate coaches, health professionals, and sporting teams on effective strategies to mitigate injury risks for their athletes and patients.
Research indicates that strength training alone can reduce sports injuries by more than two- thirds, while overuse injuries may be nearly halved (Lauersen et al., 2014).
Topics such as this are covered in our presentations including load management and periodization, athletic development, recovery and injury reduction strategies.
Access to this comprehensive presentation is available at a rate of $299.

PD Network
The continuing education of our staff is of the utmost importance, not only to stay relevant in the current trends of our field but to build networking opportunities and relationships with like-minded industry professionals.
Every year we map out new opportunities for professional development as a part of an annual calendar, it's a great way to connect and learn, both at the same time as bringing our team together - which we know in the day-to-day this can be challenging to do.
We then asked ourselves - if this brings us together as a team and keeps us relevant by teaming up with other industry leaders - why don't we just extend the invite out to our circle of coaches (or anyone) with a similar interest and try to network with lots the great people of our industry at the same time?
I mean, if we are going to host this for our team anyway then for the betterment of our industry it would seem like a waste if we didn't - so here we are, everyone wins. Including the presenter as they get a window to cast their net out to many rather than a few.
To us, this seemed like a great chance to open up our facility, creating the ultimate team environment and bring a lot of like-minded professionals together in the same room.
The best part about it is that there is absolutely no cost to those who attend, it's on us. If you'd like to know how you or your team can get involved, simply shoot us a message!
